System Poo Fairy Program

Project Description: The Mammoth Lakes Trail System has been proudly operating our year-round Poo Fairy Program since the Summer of 2017. What is a poo fairy you might be asking? Well, there is no Poo Fairy, which means that it is the responsibility of dog owners to clean up any solid waste generated by their furry companions. The Poo Fairy program consists of 15 strategically placed stations. These stations have a sign with good dog owner etiquette information as well as a dispenser stocked with poo bags. Some stations are also equipped with a small waste basket to collect full poo bags.  And this program responds dynamically to changing seasons. In the summer, every major trailhead is equipped with at least one station. These stations are removed in the fall to protect equipment from winter damage. During the winter, these extra stations are deployed to popular winter trailheads. Mammoth Lakes Trail System staff keeps stations stocked with bags, while waste removal is completed through a contract with Mammoth Disposal. The partnership between Mammoth Lakes Trail System and Mammoth Disposal has been excellent, and we look forward to providing this unique and much needed service to our community into the future.
