Lakes Basin Special Study - 2012
Project description: The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) awarded the Town of Mammoth Lakes (TOML) a grant in 2008 to complete recreation and mobility planning in the much-loved and heavily visited Mammoth Lakes Basin. In partnership with the Inyo National Forest (INF) and MLTPA, the Lakes Basin Special Study, or LABSS, kicked off in the summer of 2010 with a variety of community-based outreach events, workshops, field trips, and more. Information collected from this effort may be used by the INF to help draft a Lakes Basin Management Plan. MLTPA assisted by convening the public to gain input on everything from favorite outdoor activities and places to local transportation opportunities, as well as by working on data collection for both traffic studies and recreation-use information. The LABSS process wrapped up in late February 2012 having achieved the grant's goal of enhancing interagency collaboration and having completed additional, SNC-approved work beyond the scope of the original project while remaining within its original budget. LABSS was completed in February, 2012
