Frolicking and playing in a fresh blanket of powdery snow is a simple winter joy that captures the hearts of both the young and the young at heart. It is an Eastern Sierra rite of passage to jump, fall, roll, and toss fresh snow with glee in celebration of winter and its simple wonders. Snowplay has something for everyone and encompasses a variety of activities, including: making snow angels, building snow people, creating snow sculptures and mazes, engaging in snowball skirmishes, and gravity driven snowplay with sleds, saucers, and tubes.
At its most basic snowplay requires very little snowpack, often just a few inches of snow is all that is needed to have fun in the snow. Snowplay is one of the first and last winter recreation activities people engage in each season. Due to its popularity and long seasonal appeal, the MLTS is seeking input from snowplay stakeholders to better identify, formalize, and enhance the variety of snowplay areas in Mammoth Lakes for both residents and visitors.
The best way to prepare for this presentation is to get out there and play in the snow! Please visit the snowplay sites in the “Trail System Master Plan: Winter Recreation Nodes” and the “Candidate Snowplay Experiences” attachments below and let us know what you think at the Summit. Once you’re done playing in the snow, take a look at the snowplay links and attachments below to further prepare for the presentation.
