Mammoth Lakes Trail System Summer of Stewardship Trail Days 2012

Project Description: MLTPA and Friends of the Inyo are teaming up for a fourth season of the stewardship on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System! Kicking off on June 2, National Trails Day, and closing on September 15, Coastal Cleanup Day, five different trail days will give volunteers the opportunity to help maintain the places we all love to play. Local recreation user groups and businesses will co-host and sponsor the events, providing breakfast, lunch, and free prizes for volunteers. The Inyo National Forest will provide a program of work for each site, and participants may choose from a variety of tasks. Locations for the SOS Trail Days 2012 are below.

  • June 2: National Trails Day in the Lakes Basin
  • July 14: Horseshoe Lake/McLeod Lake to Red Cones/Crater Meadow
  • July 28: Lake George
  • August 11: Coldwater Trailheads
  • September 15: Coastal Cleanup Day in the Lakes Basin
  • October 20: MLTS Grand Opening Panorama Dome

All ages and ability levels are welcome, as well as school and church groups, businesses, recreation clubs, teams, and other organizations. Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and all volunteers must sign a liability waiver prior to beginning work. We will provide all necessary tools and specialized safety gear, but ask that participants arrive in long sleeves, long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes, and with some form of eye protection (sunglasses are fine). Anyone without proper footwear will have to sit this one out, so come dressed to get dirty! Please also bring your own sunscreen, hat, bug spray, and water bottle. Water will be available on site, and we will serve breakfast courtesy of Old New York Deli & Bagel Company promptly at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers also will be served lunch after the work program (approximately three hours) is complete. Giveaways from a variety of generous donors, from local massage therapy sessions to Patagonia outerwear, will be awarded to our hard-working volunteers.

We hope you'll join us this summer in caring for our public lands. If you have questions or are interested in co-hosting or sponsorship, please contact Friends of the Inyo at (760) 873-6500 or MLTPA at info@mltpa.org.
