Summer of Stewardship Trail Days 2013
Series Sponsors: Old New York Deli and Bagel Company, Mammoth Brewing Company and Mammoth Lakes Sunrise Rotary
Project Description: MLTPA, Friends of the Inyo, the Town of Mammoth Lakes and the Inyo National Forest are teaming up for the fifth annual "Summer of Stewardship Trail Days" on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System! Kicking off on June 1, National Trails Day, and closing on September 21, Coastal Cleanup Day, six different trail day events will give volunteers the opportunity to help maintain the places we all love to play. Funded byMeasure R, local recreation user groups and businesses will co-host and sponsor each of the events, providing breakfast, lunch, and free prizes for volunteers. Dates for the Summer of Stewardship Trail Days 2013 events are below listed below. Click on the trail names to link to pages from the Mammoth Lakes Trail System website.
- June 1: National Trails Day on Panorama Dome
- July 6: Uptown/Downtown and Earthquake Fault Trails
- July 20: Mountain View Trail
- August 3: Coldwater Trails and Mammoth Consolidated Mine
- August 17: Hot Creek
- September 21: Lakes Basin Coastal Cleanup Day
All ages and ability levels are welcome. Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and all volunteers must sign a liability waiver prior to beginning work. We will provide all necessary tools and specialized safety gear, but ask that participants arrive in long sleeves, long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes, and with some form of eye protection (sunglasses are fine). Anyone without proper footwear will have to sit this one out, so come dressed to get dirty! Please also bring your own sunscreen, hat, bug spray, and water bottle. Water will be available on site, and we will serve a bagel breakfast promptly at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers also will be served lunch after the work program (approximately three hours) is complete. Giveaways from a variety of generous donors, from local massage therapy sessions to Patagonia outerwear, will be awarded to our hard-working volunteers.
We hope you'll join us this summer in caring for our public lands. If you have questions or are interested in co-hosting or sponsorship, please contact us.
