Trail Days - Summer of Stewardship - 2024

Project Description: 
The Town of Mammoth Lakes and Inyo National Forest partnered for the 16th season of Trail Days on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System! Kicking off June 7 with National Trails Day and wrapping up September 13 with the Annual Lakes Basin Cleanup, this summer’s events gave volunteers the chance to care for the places we all love to play. Supported by Measure R, local recreation groups, and businesses, each event featured a free breakfast and raffle prizes. 

JUNE 7: National Trails Day at Sherwin Meadows Trailhead 


Event Stats: 

  • 34 volunteers 
  • Grand Opening for The Sherwin Meadows Trailhead 
  • Collected 165 pounds of waste
    • 125 pounds of trash 
    • 40 pounds of recycling 
  • Lopped 3 miles of trail 
  • Stained 15 trail signs and posts 
  • Delineated the trail leading to the new trailhead 

SEPTEMBER 13: Annual Lakes Basin Cleanup 


Event Stats: 

  • 38 volunteers 
  • Collected 61.5 pounds of waste
    • 53.4 pounds of trash
    • 5.6 pounds of recycling
    • 2.5 pounds of fishing line
  • Installed 2 new water bars 
  • Removed 1 large root 
  • Benched 80 feet of trail
