June 2: National Trails Day in the Lakes Basin

Project Description: The 10th Anniversary Season of Trail Days will kick off on National Trail Days in the Lakes Basin! Volunteers will be doing trail maintenance, general clean up, landscape restoration and installing new signage in the Lakes Basin and at Lake George. Everyone will get an introduction to trail maintenance skills from the Mammoth Lakes Trail System Trail Crew, and find out about ways to get involved all summer long!

Meet at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot for a free bagel breakfast provided by Old New York Deli, safety talk, and work assignments. A free gourmet lunch – brought to you by Volunteer Eastern Sierra and Bleu Handcrafted Foods – will cap off the day of trail work, along with raffle prizes and free giveaways. All ages and abilities are welcome, as are families and clubs! Please arrive dressed for trail work (long pants, sun protection, sturdy close-toed shoes and gloves), and don’t worry if you can’t make it quite at 8:30; we can check you in and send you off to a task in progress just about anytime before 10:30 a.m. Trail Days are made possible by the Town of Mammoth LakesInyo National ForestMammoth Lakes Recreation, and Mammoth’s own Measure R! And special thanks to KMMT Radio for airtime to spread the word!

  • When: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Meet at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot for a free bagel breakfast, safety talk, and work assignments.
  • What: Work efforts will include new trail maintenance, landscape restoration, new trail signage and more.
  • Who: Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Please dress for trail work: sturdy, close-toed shoes, hat, and long pants. Gloves and tools provided.

  • 3 replacement signs installed; 1 replacement post; sign maintenance performed on 8 signs
  • Naturalization of Lake George Path
  • Painting of 3 Horseshoe Lake restroom buildings
