August 15: Uptown/Downtown

Project Description: Honoring Skip Harvey and his long time passion for the public Uptown/Downtown Mountain Bike Trails, please join Footloose Sports, Fatbike Mammoth, and Eastside Wide at the Earthquake Fault parking lot at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15 to clean up the public Uptown/Downtown mountain bike trail zone and to extend some much needed love to the Earthquake Fault picnic area. A free gourmet lunch brought to you by Sunrise Rotary and the incomparable Bleu Handcrafted foods caps off your trail work along with raffle prizes, lots of free giveaways, and a very special giveaway prize in Skip Harvey’s memory. Close-toed shoes and long pants required; please carpool if you can. Volunteers will get an introduction to trail maintenance skills from Friends of the Inyo staff, and those interested in being regular members of the Mammoth Lakes Trail System stewardship team should be sure to show up August 15 to get trained up for future SOS projects. All Summer of Stewardship Trail Days are made possible by the Inyo National Forest, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, and Mammoth’s own Measure R!

  • When: Saturday, August 15, 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Earthquake Fault parking lot for a free bagel breakfast, safety talk and work assignments.
  • What: Summer of Stewardship Trail Days 2015 Event #3 in the public Uptown/Downtown mountain bike zone,  including general clean up, trail brushing, and trail maintenance.
  • Who: Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Please dress for trail work: sturdy, close-toed shoes, hat, and long pants. Gloves and tools provided.

EVENT STATISTICS:

  • 62 volunteers
  • 279 total volunteer hours (4.5 hours x 62 volunteers)
  • 3.5 miles of trail monitored and maintained
  • 500 + lbs of trash collected and disposed (one full load for a large pick up truck)
  • 1,800 ft of social trail / trail braids restored
  • 75 sq ft of pavement swept of cinders and pumice
