July 5: Trail Days on the Mammoth Rock Trail

Project Description: The Fourth of July weekend is here, and what better way to celebrate than with a day of mountain bike trail work on the Mammoth Rock Trail! Please join Footloose Sports, Fatbike Mammoth, MLTPA, and Friends of the Inyo at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 at the intersection of Sherwin Creek Road and the Mammoth Rock Trail to steward a beloved mountain bike trail on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System! All ages are welcome, a free lunch and raffle prizes are part of the fun, and we’ll be handing out a special prize in memory of Skip Harvey, long time Town Council Member and mountain biking trail lover. Close-toed shoes and long pants required; please carpool if possible. Volunteers will be working on a general clean up of the Mammoth Rock Trail including trail brushing, and general maintenance projects Volunteers will also get an introduction to trail maintenance skills from Friends of the Inyo staff, and those interested in being regular members of the Mammoth Lakes Trail System stewardship team should be sure to show up on July 5 to get trained up for future SOS projects. 

  • When: Saturday, July 5, 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Meet at the intersection of Sherwin Creek Road and the Mammoth Rock Trail for a free bagel breakfast, safety talk and work assignments.
  • What: Summer of Stewardship Trail Days 2014 Event #2 on the Mammoth Rock Trail including general clean up, trail brushing, and general maintenance.
  • Who: Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Please dress for trail work: sturdy, close-toed shoes, hat, and long pants. Gloves and tools provided.

  • Brushed and maintained 2.5 miles of trail
  • Removed 2 logs impeding trail tread
  • Raked and maintained 1.5 miles of trail tread
  • Rehabbed (improved) 100 yrds of blown out trail
  • Made 30+ positive visitor contacts with members of the recreating public
  • Removed 15 lbs of trash
  • Skip Harvey Memorial Prize Awarded
  • Lots of fun had by all - !
