Summer of Stewardship 2011: July 2 at Sherwin Lakes Trailhead and Mammoth Rock Trail
Co-hosted by the High Sierra Triathlon Club
Sponsored by the Old New York Deli & Bagel Company
Project Description: Trail work and recreation site improvements on the Sherwin Lakes, Valentine, and Mammoth Rock trails, plus the Sherwin Creek day-use picnic area. We'll stage at the Sherwin Lakes trailhead (and we encourage volunteers to carpool, as parking is limited), review safety procedures, assign volunteers, and have breakfast at the meeting place, then send smaller groups off to work on the following projects:
+ Sherwin Lakes Trail maintenance (brushing/rocking), plus fire-ring and trash removal
+ Mammoth Rock Trail maintenance (brushing/rocking, replacing broken parking barriers)
+ Valentine Trail maintenance (brushing/rocking, plus logging out some downed trees with hand saws and a cross-cut saw and delineating the trailhead area)
+ Sherwin Creek picnic area table painting and trash pickup
+ Sign painting at other trailheads if time allows
Volunteers will work for approximately three hours, then meet back at Sherwin Lakes Trailhead for lunch and raffle prizes. Please dress appropriately: sturdy close-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sun protection/bug spray, and eye protection (sunglasses are fine).
